MARAUDERS MOVE TO FOURTH IN CUFLA STANDINGS WITH WIN OVER TORONTO

The Marauders had seven different goal scorers Friday night including Tristan Schram and Lucas Lepore with their first goals of the season. Mitch Iszkula led the Marauders with a six-point performance (3+3). Mark Phillips and Carter Williams both with four point games.

The Marauders would start off the first with back-to-back goals with the first from Kyle Lindsay and followed by Mitch Iszkula, both goals with the assist from Carter Williams. It would take Toronto almost five minutes before finding the back of the net, before the Marauders would have a three-point goal streak. The streak included back-to-back goals from Phillips and another from Iszkula.

The Marauders led by three going into the second quarter, but wouldn’t put anything up on the board until Phillips ripped one at 16:29 to start a five goal streak that would carry into the third. The streak was broken up by Michael Buwalda; the leading scorer for Toronto, who put in four of the five goals for the Blues.

McMaster would play a portion of the fourth on the man down but with strong penalty kills would only give up one goal on the Blue’s power play to Justin Crofts. As for the Marauders, they managed to capitalize twice on the man up scoring on two power play occasions… once from Iszkula and the second from Lucas Lepore.

With Friday Night’s 13-7 win the Marauders move to a 4-6 record and keep their playoff hopes alive. Their next game will be at Alumni Field against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday the 18th in a 7 o’clock match up.

BRANDON MARSHALL NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR GREEN CLEATS

As many people know the NFL along with several other sports deck themselves out in Pink throughout the month of October to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer Awareness has sky rocketed over the past few years, and there is no reason at all that it shouldn't continue this. I think that having professional teams , college teams, and even high schools teams wear pink is a huge step to helping raise awareness.

However what I don't agree on at all is the fact that Brandon Marshall was told he couldn't wear green cleats for Mental Health Awareness. Mental Health is something that gets pushed to the side all of the time because symptoms aren't seen and people don't talk about it. If more people to support Mental Health Awareness and build the overall knowledge on the topic than more people would speak up.

I personally lost a lot of respect for the NFL with this decision. Not only because I've personally struggled with mental illness but because I know that I may have gotten help for my self, but there are SEVERAL others out there that are fighting it alone. There are many people out there that think they are alone and that people don't care. The NFL is a huge organization and I think that they should be taking a stand for more than just one or two causes.

Yes there are reasons they are strict with their uniform. Yes they have a uniform for a reason. But don't you think that the NFL should acknowledge the fact that there are millions of people world wide that are suffering from mental illness? Should the organization not realize that their players have a higher chance of mental illness than things such as breast cancer?

And my final thought/fact to leave you with:
Cancer patients have an 80 percent chance of living. 1 in 5 people with an Eating Disorder (a mental illness) will die.

Break the Stigma.

MCMASTER HOSTS TORONTO FRIDAY NIGHT

Friday Night the Marauders host Toronto at 7pm for the first of three home games. Toronto is currently just above McMaster in the standings, and with a Mac win, will be tied. The Marauders headed to Toronto back in September when they kicked off their 2013 season.
The last time they played against each other McMaster came out with an 8-5 win, and was led by Carter Williams with three goals and a helper to total four points. Mark Phillips put in three goals. Phillips and Williams are currently both tied for points to lead the Marauders.

As for Toronto Andrew Masson and Michael Buwalda combined have put in 78 percent of the goals for the team this season. Masson put in two against the Marauders while Buwalda put in one.

Buwalda put in three goals in Toronto’s game last week against Western, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Mustangs as they fell to a 9-5 loss.
As for McMaster both Mark Phillips and Mitch Iszkula put in two goals against Brock along with Derrick Hastings who found the back of the net for one. McMaster fell to a 15-5 loss on the road last Sunday.

McMaster is currently 3-6 this season, but continues to keep their playoff hopes alive. The last three games of this season will be played at home. For live game updates follow @McMasterLax on twitter.

MCMASTER HEADS TO LAURIER TO TAKE ON GOLDEN HAWKS

McMaster starts off their weekend on the road as they head to Laurier for an eight o’clock game. They have yet to meet up this season, and McMaster looks to turn around their 4 game losing streak. Their last game was Wednesday night at home against the Brock Badgers where they fell to an 8-1 loss. Mark Phillips had the lone goal for Mac early on in the first. Phillips is now at 11 goals so far this season. He lead the Marauders in goals and is second in points following Carter Williams. 

As for Laurier they have yet to win a game this season, and have a total of 81 goals against averaging 13 a game.  Laurier played in Guelph Wednesday night and lost 14-7.  Drew Barefoot led with two goals while Jordan Bennett put in a goal and a helper for two points throughout the night.

Since 2006 McMaster and Laurier have met up a total of 12 times in regular season. Throughout the Regular season McMaster has beaten Laurier a total of 10 times. In 2012, McMaster lost both games against Laurier totalling 17 goals for and 24 against.

MCMASTER FALLS 8-1 TO BROCK

Wednesday night the McMaster Marauders hosted the Brock Badgers on Alumni Field for their first meeting of the 2013 season. McMaster won the opening draw but wouldn’t score until just over 5 minutes into the first when Mark Phillips found the back of the net. Phillips would be the only Marauder to score through out the contest. McMaster would hold Brock to just two goals within the first to end the quarter down by 1.

The Badgers would see goals from a variety of players including Kyle Davis who would put in three. Through out the second the Badgers put in three to bring their lead to four points. They would score twice in the third and just once more through out the fourth to end the game 8-1.

This weekend the Marauders will be on the road on Friday and Sunday as they take on Laurier before their rematch against the Badgers. Their next home game will take place on October 11th against Toronto.

MCMASTER HOSTS BROCK TO START 2ND HALF OF SEASON

McMaster is back at home Wednesday as they host the Brock Badgers to kick off the second half of the season. The Marauders last game was in Guelph just over a week ago when they fell to a 14-9 loss. The loss gave them a 2-4 record to end the first half of the season. Carter Williams led with four points and is currently leading the team with a total of 12 (9+3).

As for Brock they moved to first in the OUA West after their win over the Western Mustangs this past weekend. Travis Arch led the Badgers with 4 points, followed close behind by Gage Board who totalled three points after a goal and two helpers. Brock’s Brandon Slade had a two point performance against western with a goal and single assist, is currently in third in the OUA and 2^nd in the west for points with a total of 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points.

Brock and McMaster have yet to meet up this season, but will play two games this week with their second one in St. Catharine’s on Sunday. The Marauders lost both games last season; 10-9 at home and 13-3 on the road.  McMaster’s last win over the Badgers in regular season was back in 2009, However; they beat Brock 10-9 in 2010 in playoffs when they would go on to win the Championship.
