Hamilton Nationals - Game Recap vs Denver Outlaws

The Hamilton Nationals’ winning streak ended at five games, following a 22-9 loss to the Denver Outlaws at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Denver (6-0) seized sole possession of first place in the MLL with their franchise-best 12th straight regular season win, dating back to last season. The Nationals fell to 5-1 and into second place after the 13-point loss, which tied the largest defeat in franchise history. The 5-0 start was a team record for the Nationals.

Kevin Crowley led the Nats with four goals to extend his franchise record point streak to 21 games. Additionally, rookie Garrett Thul notched three goals in his professional debut. The Outlaws received four-goal performances from Brendan Mundorf (4+3), Drew Snider (4+2), Zack Greer (4+1) and Eric Law (4+0).

Denver started off early in the first with two goals from Greer with his first just 43 seconds into the contest. Mundorf followed with two more before the Nationals were able to put one by Jesse Schwartzman. Crowley put the Nationals on the board at 8:24 and extended his franchise record point streak to 21. Anthony Kelly, who won 20 faceoffs, set the tone for the game by winning the first seven draws against Matt Dolente.

Dolente set up the Nationals’ second goal, as he fed Josh Hawkins for a marker 21 seconds into the second. After a 4-0 Denver run, Joe Walters managed to find the back of the net at 8:19 to extend point streak to 18 games. Hamilton ended the first half with three of the quarter’s final four goals. The last two goals were 31 seconds apart as Crowley put in his second of the game before Thul found the back of the net for the first of his MLL Career.

Denver started off the second half with a goal from Law just 18 seconds into the third quarter. Crowley answered the shorthanded goal with his third of the game to make it 11-6. Denver, however, kept the Nationals quiet until Thul scored his second at 10:18 of the third. Thul’s goal was answered quickly by Law who put in his third of the quarter to give Denver an 18-7 lead.

Just 43 seconds into the fourth, Thul put in his third of the game. Yet, not long afterward, the Outlaws took control of the final quarter with four straight goals. With just six seconds left, Crowley scored his fourth of the night.

The Nationals won’t get their chance at redemption against the Outlaws until the final game of the season when they host the Outlaws on August 10th. Hamilton stays on the road as it visits the New York Lizards on Thursday, June 13th. The 7:00 p.m. game will be carried live on ESPN3.
