Hamilton Nationals - News and Notes June 17

The Hamilton Nationals are now 5 and 2 after a loss to the New York Lizards last friday. This time last year Hamilton was the exact opposite with a 2-5 record but after starting the season with a franchise best win streak, they have managed to turn things around. The Nationals continue to hold onto second place, but the Chesapeake Bayhawks are close behind in third with a  4-3 record.

The first match up with the Lizards Kevin Crowley came through with just four seconds left to win the game with a 2 pointer. Although he didn’t manage to pull that off for a second time, he did however tie his career high with 5 goals. With the first of the game he extended his game point streak to 22. Crowley currently leads the League in points (32) and goals (23).

Dillion Ward, was recently acquired by the Nationals and made 11 stops for his MLL debut. Rookie Mike Poppleton put in his first goal of the season in his second MLL game, Poppleton also scooped up 5 ground balls.

Stephen Keogh rattled off two goals in the fourth quarter to help with an attempted comeback for the Nationals alongside Crowley’s fifth goal of the night. Keogh has played a large role in the Nationals offence since his return to the Nationals after winning the NLL Championship with the Rochester Knighthawks. He is currently third in points for the Nationals with 14 and second in goals with 12.

The Nationals on their last road game before being back at Ron Joyce Stadium on June 29th are in Florida this weekend to take on the Rochester Rattlers. The Rattlers are currently tied for fourth with a 3-4 record. Last season the Nationals and Rochester were 1-1.
