Hamilton Nationals - News and Notes May 27th

The Hamilton Nationals moved to 4-0 after a 16-9 win over the Ohio Machine on Thursday night. The four-game winning streak moves the Nationals one win away from tying their longest streak, which dates back to 2009 when they won their last three regular season games and two playoff games to capture the Major League Lacrosse championship.

Hamilton is off to a franchise best 4-0 record. Kevin Crowley leads the MLL in points after scoring a career-high five goals and adding one assist last game. Another key player for the Nationals last Thursday was Joe Walters. In 2012, Crowley was ranked second on the Nationals in points with 37 just behind Joe Walters, who put up 46 points last year. In the win over the Machine, Walters recorded the 100th assist of his career as part of a seven-point game (4+3). Walters has 12 points in two games since returning to the team after winning the NLL Championship with the Rochester Knighthawks.

Josh Hawkins made his MLL debut on Thursday night, putting in one goal for the Nationals. He finished his college career at Loyola with 172 ground balls and caused 34 turnovers in 49 games. Hawkins joins former teammate Reid Acton as well as Defensive Player of the Year Tucker Durkin, who made their MLL Debuts on May 17th in Hamilton against the Charlotte Hounds. Goalie Brett Queener was back in action after his injury on May 11th during the home opener against the Lizards. He made 15 saves in the victory at Ohio to move six away from 400 as a National.

The Nationals enter the week tied for first place with the 4-0 Denver Outlaws and will continue their road trip as they head to Annapolis, Md. to face off with the 3-1 Chesapeake Bayhawks. The defending champion Bayhawks won both meetings last season and lead the all-time series with a 6-5 record. The game Saturday will air on CBS Sports at 7:30 p.m.
